Weekend Reading #1

Part of the fun of blogging is going outside of your own bubble and seeing what others are saying.

I’ve learned plenty from the broader community over the years. For your pleasure this weekend, I’ve highlighted a number of good reads you may want to take in.

Disappointing Dividend News From Rogers Communications

Get Rich Brothers on Seeking Alpha

Okay, so for the first selection I recommend (naturally) reading the article I posted this week regarding Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI). The company failed to increase its dividend and I call out the company for their specious reasoning here.

February 2016 Stock Considerations

DivHut

Keith over at DivHut has posted his stock watch list for February. We follow many of the same names, so it’s always interesting to get his perspective on the market. He has his eye on the Canadian banks and Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) is certainly on my radar as well.

Dividend Diplomat’s 2016 Blog Goals

Dividend Diplomats

The boys over at DD have posted their goals for the year. These posts are always worth reading from fellow bloggers as they offer a window into my own life; when we see other people striving for something, it subconsciously urges us to be better ourselves. Their third goal, to create some video posts, for instance, is an idea my brother and I have been kicking around here for some time as well.

My Investment Portfolio Update – Part II

Makin The Bacon

Karen over at MTB is giving us a window into her investment portfolio. She’s keeping things diversified with some ETFs, but I’ll leave it to you to head over there for the specifics. In the first part of the update she also outlines her strategy which includes a lot of dividend paying equities; we can certainly relate to that around here.

Rockstar Finance

It goes without saying to anyone who knows the site, but of course, check out Rockstar Finance any time you’re looking for some high quality financial reading. These guys offer a collection of the best articles around the web. Proud to say we’ve been featured there as well in the past.

Thank you for reading and I hope you find some value from this weekend reading list!

What are you planning to read through this weekend?

Full Disclosure: Long RCI, BNS

  2. Just found your blog and I’ll have to come back and read it over the next few days. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. JC,

Glad to see you around these parts. Hope you come back and looking forward to hearing what you think of the site! I’ll have to check yours out as well this week.

      Happy reading!

Thank you for the DivHut mention. It will be interesting to see how many Canadian banks buys will be made in Feb. As you know, those yields, which are still quite safe, look very, very tempting. Thanks again!

    1. DH,

It’s hard to not keep sinking new capital into the financials when their yields are so juicy. I just try to balance it with some low yielding high growth div payers as well so I don’t get burned at some point for chasing yield.

      Take care!

  4. Thanks for including our goals post GRB! You and your brother should definitely put a video post together. I know we are looking forward to doing it and changing the pace a little bit. It should make for a fun Saturday or Sunday one day.

    1. DD,

Glad to include you in the post! Goals articles are my favourite type to read… it’s where you really learn what’s important to people. The Vlog is definitely going to be a fun piece to put together.

      Take care,
      Ryan
